Why this matters: our read

The panel review is what moves Casino, and a change at the top does not alter it. The executive search is the next step the board has committed to, and the release gives no date for it.

Western Copper and Gold Corporation said on Oct. 26 that Sandeep Singh is leaving his posts as President, Chief Executive Officer and director, effective Oct. 31, 2026.

Chairman Mark E. Smith will be appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Financial Officer Michael Psihogios will also be appointed President, both effective Nov. 1, 2026. The board will start an executive search for a new CEO.

Western said Smith and Psihogios will lead the company as the Casino copper-gold project goes through the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board panel review. It said engineering design and optimization work continues in parallel. Smith said the review, the engineering and the company’s First Nations and Yukon government engagement go on without a break.

The company reported more than C$120.6 million in cash and investments as of Sept. 30, 2026. The release does not give a timeline for the CEO search or for the panel review.
